I have been with a Direct Sales company now for close to 25 years. There is one thing most people tell me when I approach them about joining as a sales representative:
"I don't like selling"
Why is it that, though? What is it about "selling" that is so terrible?
People sell all the time!
What happens when you watch a great movie? You will tell all your friends about it, and recommend they go and watch it. That is selling!
How about an excellent restaurant? The new TV show? Something you like ... something you dislike?
I have moved into the area and ask if you know a good doctor or a good mechanic. What do you say?
Here is the thing: People are ALL born sales people, and it is their ATTITUDE towards selling stuff that makes them decide they can't sell. They get one "no," another, and yet another, and then develop this attitude. The only thing that sets salespeople apart from those who "hate selling" is their ability to not get affected by the "no's." It is their ability to let go of something uncomfortable, and focus in stead on their goal.
Let's think about it logically: What is it that you are afraid of? What is it that you don't like?
REJECTION!!!
Let me ask you another question: Do you like helping people?
What is that? No? ... if you are like most people you will say yes!
Now ... let's think .... what do you like to help people with? What area are you good at?
Find the answers to these questions, and then find a product that suits this. This should become your passion: To help people in the area of your natural talents!
Then once you have your product, ask yourself the following questions:
Is your product a good product?
How does it help people?
Is what you're offering going to change their lives for the better?
If the answer is yes, then: Congratulations! There is no reason to be afraid of selling. You are not selling something, you are helping someone. Can you see the difference in having this attitude?
A doctor is selling something: His services! And he is helping as many people as he possibly can.
A plumber is also helping as many people as he can. Imagine a plumber not coming to your house to unblock a drain because he doesn't like "selling something." Can you see how ridiculous that is?
If you shift your mindset to helping people instead of selling, then you won’t be afraid of selling anymore. And you will pity those who say "no" in stead of feeling rejected, because they are missing out on the benefits of what you have to offer.
I too sell something. I help people lose their fear of selling. I give them sales training. I teach them how to present themselves, how to handle objections, and how to build relationships with their clients. I change their lives for the better.
There is one guy who bought my product. My product helped him to raise his closing ratio by 400%! His company, in this case a top Network Marketing company, had to ask him how he did it. He introduced my product, and his company bought my product as sales training for all their representatives! Imagine how many people I am helping!
Selling is NOT a sin – it fact it is the most important aspect of any business.
You owe it to yourself to lose your fear of selling.
